My dad is an artist. I've known it for years, but he has only discovered it in the last 10. 
At a recent show in southwestern Oklahoma (Broken Bow, where he garnered yet more awards!), he saw and acquired a very rich-looking pocket knife. It isn't an expensive knife as knives go, I would hazard to say it's a Chinese import. The box is plastic and the inlay, a typical southwestern/Native American motif. I don't even collect knives. In fact the last pocket knife I had... Well, this isn't EXACTLY true, but it feels like it was one my father gave me when I was about 9.
I lost it the same day I received it. Nothing against pocket knives, I did the same thing with wallets!
But the excitement on my dads face when he handed it to me, it was electric. That feeling you get when you feel remembered, it's a delight. Especially when it's your dad.
I had to paint it right away. Now it's with me forever.
